Pedro Lomba Neto was born on 9 March 2000 to a Portuguese father Pedro Neto Senior and mother Christina Lomba Neto in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. The winger is the youngest and the only son in their family.
Family and Early life.
Neto’s heritage is a blend of Portuguese from his father and Mozambican origin from his mother’s side.
Neto came from a middle class household, this made his parents to go extra mile inorder to afford the daily basic needs for their son and twin daughters. Neto spent his early life with his elder twin sisters Debora and Bruna in their hometown at Viana do Castelo, a city in the northern part of Portugal.
Pedro Neto club career
Pedro Neto begun his football journey at S.C Braga at age of 13 although his sporting life didn’t begin with football as he was more in love with roller hockey where he was influenced by his father who played the same sport in his early years. His uncle Sergio Lomba who was a professional footballer played a significant role advising the youngster to join football and started to horn his skills at a local club Vianense. Further progress took place when he joined Perspectiva em Jogo and later committed his life to football after he successfully passed trials at S.C Braga youth in 2013.
Following his enrolment at Braga Youth, his talent begun to be evident as he rised through the club’s academy system and in May 2017 he made his debut with the reserve team. The following weekend he made a debut with the first team and just a few minutes after entering the pitch he scored his first goal for the club marking a career milestone as the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history aged 17 years and two months old in the competition.
Loan to SS Lazio
The loan move to Italy followed after Neto rejected an offer to join Barcelona and Manchester United who had came begging for his signature. Braga’s president convinced the Neto’s family not take the big club route even after his parents had visited Barcelona and Manchester United facilities. In the summer 2017, Braga decided to loan Neto together with his fellow teammate Bruno Jordao to Lazio for two years with an obligation to buy. The loan move wasn’t a smooth one as he played only one game in the Serie A against Juventus and a total of four matches in the span of two years.
Wolverhampton
In August 2019, Neto joined Premier League club Wolverhampton and made his debut twelve days later in the UEFA Europa League second leg match against Pyunik where he scored and provided an assist in the 4-0 victory. His Premier League debut came days later the same month when he came on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. He made his first start in a Premier league match in 28 September against Watford providing an assist in a 2-0 win. His first premier league goal came on 1 January 2020 in a 2-1 loss against Watford becoming the first Wolves teenager to do so in the competition.
Neto suffered a serious knee injury on 9 April 2021 against Fulham which kept him out until February 2022 when he made his return against Leicester as a substitute in a 2-1 victory. On 9 March 2022 Neto agreed to sign a new contract committing himself to the club until 2027. In September 2022 he suffered an ankle injury which sidelined him for nearly five months returning to action in 4th March 2023. He scored his first ever FA Cup goal in 28 January 2024 against West Bromwich Albion. Over his time at Wolves, Neto made 135 appearances.
Chelsea
In 11 August 2024, Pedro Neto signed for Chelsea on a seven year contract. The transfer fee was reported to be worth £51.3 million with potential bonuses. He made his first competitive appearance against Manchester City coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat. He scored his first goal for the club on 24 September in a 5-0 victory over Barrow in the EFL cup third round. Pedro Neto first made an international appearance when he represented Portugal under-17 in 2016 and ever since he has represented Portugal at all Youth ranks. On September 2019 he won his first call up to the Under-21 side. A year later in 5 November 2020 he received his first senior national team call up debuting in 11 November against Andorra scoring in a 7-0 win.
