Oscar Bobb biography.

We begin Bobb’s biography by telling out key notable events from his childhood and then we will cover his footballing journey fueled by his mother.

Oscar Bobb was born on 12 July 2003 to his parents Turid Gunnes and Abdou Bobb in Oslo, Norway. Bobb didn’t come to this world as the lone child as he shared his early life with his little sister. The two children were raised in Tåsen, a neighbourhood in the west side of Oslo.

Young Bobb attended his Elementary school at Tåsen but had doubts about continuing his lower secondary school education in Norway as his mother had already landed a job in Portugal where in 2015 they moved to Portugal hoping his son would continue his education there.

Growing up , Bobb’s love for football begun in his early years and when time was right he was enrolled in Lyn football club which is based in Oslo. Apart from playing football, Bobb was also fancied to meeting his football idol Martin Ordegaard whom later they would be teammates in Norway national team.

Parents and Family origin.

Oscar Bobb is the first born child of Abdou Bobb and Turid Gunnes. Interestingly the Norwegian professional footballer is the son of Norwegian celebrity Turid Gunnes who is known for her acting roles. Unfortunately the two are no longer married as they divorced in 2010 and Gunnes took full custody of her kids but Abdou has been present in raising and supporting his kids.

Little is known about his father Abdou, however research shows that he originates from The Gambia in west Africa. Bobb’s mum is a native of Nordassløyfa in Holmlia, Oslo. The renowned actress was born in 1965 and received her education at Norwegian National Academy of Theatre and begun her acting in 1994.

Bobb’s career took a serious turn when he was enrolled at Lyn football academy at age of ten but his stay at the club was cut short as his mother had gotten a job at Portugal where he accompanied his mum to the new country.

The Portugal experience.

After settling in Portugal, in March 2013, Bobb participated in Algarve Youth cup football tournament and his dribbling and other football skills amazed the spectators and among them were FC Porto scouts and after the match they reached out for the young kid and his mother gave an approval for the club to sign his son.

Bobb’s football life in Portugal was filled with constraints as his registration to Portuguese clubs was rejected by FIFA. At this time, he was still registered to Lyn football academy and despite Porto accepting him informally, their request to register him as their player was rejected by FIFA as the football body felt that the club is bleaching rules by conducting international transfers for minors.

Turid Gunnes was angered by FIFA and decided to prepare new fresh documents and sent them to Portuguese Football Federation but the court of Football Arbitration sided with FIFA and had a second rejection. Turid found it difficult to send his son back to Norway and tried to find a local club where his son could be training at and tried enroll him to AJ Escola de Futebal Hernani Gonçalves in Porto City but again FIFA were unconvinced.

Returning to Norway and rise to fame.

After his family lost the case in getting Bobb registered to a Portuguese club, he was extremely upset and his mum had to console him to return to Norway and upon arriving there his mum rented an apartment in Tåsen where he grew with his sister.

Reaching in Norway, Oscar Bobb joined Vålerenga in 2017 and made his name once again as he let all his past be behind him. In a span of two years his name became known among Vålerenga fans. His meteoric rise attracted the interest of Manchester City which signed him in July 2019.

After earning himself a place in the books of Manchester City in July 2019, three months were enough for him to capture global recognition as he was named by the English news paper, The Guardian as the best young talent at Manchester City of his age group.

The change in culture and environment made him have a slow start at Manchester City youth but as time progressed he was able to cement his place at the U-23 team and notched several number of assists in his full debut season. In July 2021 he signed a three year contract which was his first professional contract. To reward his fine form, Pep Guardiola finally named him on the Manchester City bench in an FA Cup third round match against Swindon Town on 7 January 2022. His debut came on 2 September 2023 in a Premier league match when he came on as a substitute against Fulham.

Oscar Bobb made his Champions League debut on 19 September 2023 against Red Star Belgrade and scored his first Champions league goal in the second leg match against Red Star Belgrade on 13 December 2023. In 13 January 2024 he scored his first Premier league goal which secured a victory comeback against Newcastle.

On 26 February 2024, Oscar Bobb signed a five year contract at Manchester City committing his future to the Manchester club until June 2029.

International Career.

Oscar Bobb has been a regular youth member at Norway national team until 2023 where he received his first call up to the Under-21 side. His first senior team call up was on October 2023 for the upcoming international fixtures. He made his debut as a substitute in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying match against Cyprus which Norway won 4-0 in 12 October. His first goal came on 16 November 2023 in a friendly match against Faroe Islands.
