Eberechi Oluchi Eze is an English professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or left winger for Premier league club, Crystal Palace. Eze is a product of numerous academies as he started his career at Arsenal and was released at age of 13 then joined Fulham, Reading and later Milwall where he wasn’t offered a professional contract after his graduation and he left Milwall for Queens Park Rangers in 2016 where he began his professional career.

After a year with Queens Park Rangers, he was sent to Wycombe Wanderers for a season-long loan and upon his return to his mother club he had a brilliant 2019-20 season as he scored 14 goals in all competitions and was named the club’s player of the year and was subsequently signed by Crystal Palace in 2020. Eberechi Eze, who is a former England youth international made his England debut on 16 June 2023 against Malta.

Eberechi Oluchi Eze was born on 29 June 1998 in the Greenwich area of South East London in England to Nigerian parents. Eze is one of no fewer than three children in their family. Reflecting about his parents, not much is known about them.

Growing up, Eze, grew up alongside his brothers Chima and Ikechi in the same area which neighboured Greenwich Hospital in London and was an active and athletic kid who played football which was his favorite sport.

Eberechi Eze holds dual citizenship. Being born in England by Nigerian parents, Eze is a Nigerian citizen through his parents and an England native because of his place of birth and upbringing. Eze is of Anglo-African ethnicity due to his birth place and ancestry.

Eberechi Eze began his football career at Arsenal training with the Youth system but was released in 2011 by the London based club as they didn’t see him as a bright prospect. After the rejection by Arsenal, Eze was able to pick up himself and secured a place at Fulham academy and later got a four month stint at Reading before joining Milwall academy in 2014 aged 16 years.

Eberechi Eze was released by Milwall, a club he had seen his future at. This sad development was depressing and was ready to quit football but his parents encouraged him to try elsewhere and luckily he got a call from Queens Park Rangers and he accepted the chance to play football again and he signed his first professional contract with the club in 2016. The club gave him a platform to showcase his talent and skills and after a season he was sent to Wycombe Wanderers for a season-long loan where he had an impressive loan stint.

Upon returning to his parent club in 2019, Eze secured his position as a winger and the club’s playing style had now been built around him. The pacy and tricky winger was impactful to the team scoring 14 times in the 2019 season and was named the club’s Player of the Year and was also in the PFA Championship Team of the Year. Over his time at QPR, Eze made 104 appearances scoring 20 times.

Following his success at QPR, in August 2020 Eze moved to Crystal Palace after a successful £17 million bid was accepted by QPR. Eze signed a five year contract with the London based club.

He made his debut on 12 September 2020 as a substitute against Southampton and scored his first goal for the Palace on 7 November 2020 in a 4-1 win against Leeds United. In May 2021, he injured his Achillies tendons which sidelined him for months contributing to his awful season as he scored just one goal in the 2021-22 season. Upon the appointment of Roy Hodgson in the 2022-23 season, Eze was able to bounce back to his form and finished the season as the club top scorer with double figures.

On 10 November 2023, Eberechi Eze reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to extend his contract to June 2027. Despite injury woes in the 2023-24 season, Eze was able to score 11 goals and provided six assists in 31 appearances and also became Crystal Palace’s fourth highest goalscorer in the Premier League history.

International Career

Eze who is a former England national team youth player had also trained with Nigeria national team before he received his England call up to play for the under-20. In 2019 Nigeria Football Federation tried to persuade him to switch international allegiance but Eze responded that he had not decided on which nation to play for. Eze received several call ups by England under-20 and eventually made an under-21 debut on 15 November 2019.

In 2020, Eze still had the same response that he is yet to decide on which nation he will represent in his senior career. Later in 2021 he was included in the England squad for the U-21 European Championship and scored against Croatia.

In May 2021, Eze was called up to the England senior squad by Gareth Southgate but he was injured while in training and had to withdraw from the squad. In June 2023 he made his senior debut for England against Malta and thereby locking himself a chance to represent Nigeria in the Future. In June 2024 he was named in England squad for EURO 2024.
